"30,000 educators all over LAUSD strike in efforts to help schools"

United Teachers Los Angeles Teacher Strike - Jan. 14-22, 2019

As the rain poured down heavily on us, I relied on my plastic-wrapped camera to visually document the UTLA LAUSD teacher strike. Teachers, staff, parents and students came together outside of our school despite the rain and I had the chance to photograph this experience for our audience. Below are some of the photos that I took throughout the seven days of the strike.

Save the Circus

"Students solve mysteries while play-testing new game ‘Save the Circus’"

DPMHS Biology and Chemistry classes - March 13, 2019

In March, the creators of the game "Escape the Room in a Box" reached out to our Biology and Chemistry teachers, asking if they can test out a new game on their students. I was assigned to take photos of the Chemistry and Biology classes during fourth period as they played this game. My focus while taking these photos was to capture the emotion on students' faces while playing the game.

Pearl Con IV

"Pearl Con IV takes on a WWII theme to celebrate school’s history’"

DPMHS fourth annual Pearl Con event - May 11, 2019

Every year, DPMHS hosts a comic event called PearlCon. Inspired by ComicCon, PearlCon is an interactive graphic novel themed festival run by our school's science teachers and held on our campus every May. This is very unique to our school and is considered one of the main events for us, so we always make sure to cover it. For the 2019 PearlCon, Our science teachers teamed up with our history teacher to incorporate historic elements into the festival and celebrate our school's history. Our school used to be an army hospital during W World War II. I was assigned as a photographer and was able to visually document this dynamic event.
